At the beginning of Unit 20 we researched horror movies and the information surrounding the movie from the films production advertising, which company made the movie and where and when it was filmed.
Advertisement key message/target audience
The Key message that the advert conveys is the idea that the energy boost from this drink will allow you to overcome any obstacles in your day to day life. This is primarily conveyed through the slogan “Energy Beasts Everything” and further conveys this through the allusion to the story of David and Goliath. This is an example of above the line advertising, the message of this advert id overt; Drink Lucozade and overcome lives issues. The advert does not try to undercut other similar products or try to facetiously convey a message. It is simply saying that if you feel more lively you will be able to handle the day to day more easily, whilst it could be argued that they can not necessarily promise this it’s hard to debate.
Advertisement campaign and logistics
This advertising campaign uses a biblical allusion as a framing device, and shows through visual metaphor, the under prepared performing an incredible feat. In the television and Web adverts this is conveyed through David being woke up by his friend almost as if he angered the colossal philistine in a drunken stupor.
Logistically speaking the “Energy Beats Everything” Ad would’ve been quite expensive, they would’ve used some special effects to provide a glow and make Goliath look massive. Whilst it wouldn’t be hard to produce the script for the ad it would still have to be drafted so as not to offend any groups (Which is particularly difficult given the religious connection) As for the print ad, it would be as easy as making a screen shot from the TV ad look like a renaissance painting. This Lucozade advert strongly hints the "energy" aspect of the sport drink. The Ad quote is "Fuel up on Lucozade which insists it helps with sports and physical activities. The target audience for this advert would be young athletes between the ages 13-25 years old.
A TV ad featured two groups of men running on treadmills who were being monitored by lab technicians. One group was shown drinking water while the other drank Lucozade Sport as they ran, with those in the first group dropping out of the competition one-by-one, apparently exhausted. At the end of the ad on-screen text stated: “[Lucozade Sport] hydrates and fuels you better than water”, next to an image of the drink.

Unit 20-Advertising P2
Name of film:
"Nocturnal"
Slogan:
"Fear the Unknown"
Purpose
The purpose of my film is to excite, thrill and terrify the viewer through a nerve racking cinematic experience.
Products/Production:
The film will be advertised using posters, bus livery, bus stops and billboards so the film can be promoted to the public and presented in popular/famous location around the world. It will also be promoted online through ads on a variety on different sites and trailers will be posted on YouTube,Facebook and Instagram.
Film poster First attempt:
Inspiration:
My Working title is “Nocturnal”. This will be the title of the advertising campaign that we will
use to showcase our new low budget, independent horror/thriller film.
The products we will be creating are posters and be displayed on billboards, bus livery and bus stops. there will also be digital advertising of
artistic posters and on set photos to advertise online. Our posters will be 27x40 and be put up around
cinemas and DVD shops even thought our movie will be digitally streamed through our own website.
The reason for choosing theses locations is that we would want to advertise our movie around an area
were our target audience will be viewing it. It also an area that fits the products so customers can see
our poster on there way in and be intrigued by it. Our billboards on the other hand will be posted on
walls on street corners. We would not have enough funds to compete for advertising it on main roads or
motorways. The billboard dimensions will be 12x8 ft.
The purpose of our advertising campaign is to promote our new horror/thriller film. Low budget
independent movies are not really sort after with all the high budget blockbusters movies. While are
film isn't trying to gross any records we are trying to expand our skills and acting methods to improve
through each project. The only way we can improve if we can get enough viewers and social media
attention to attract more and bigger companies to invest in us and our campaign.
A merge of the unknown supernatural and reality the film will have a variety of characters stretched along every age to portray that NO-ONE is safe.My film will be a creation of slasher/gore and frightening unsettling horror.
The influences of my film come from my love of classic 80s/90s such as Friday the 13th, Blair Witch
Project. Stand by Me and The Goonies. Aspects from each movie I've adapted in my own way into my
movie, Similar themes, elements and horror.
The little inspiration behind the last two films is that those movies center around the characters being
teenagers going on adventures and getting into trouble. Similar to our characters being teenagers and
causing mischief in their local park. The other films of course which are horrors are inspiration as they
are low budget horror films made by small film production and centered around woods. These films are
have a reputation for being scary and gory These are more in depth points on each film influence.
Friday the 13th: Story is about a camp reopening after the death of three victims, one camper and 2
counselors. The camper died by drowning near a lake at the camp and the counselors by murder The camp reopens in 1980 by descendants of the original owners. But the counselor's start to get killed one by one by a mysterious person. Elements of this movie I do replicate in this.
My film also has been inspired by movies like “the conjuring”, “Insidious” and “Sinister” so the movie will have more surprises and will make the viewer think and question if anything is real or fake / alive or dead.
The Grey London-created campaign also featured posters carrying the “hydrates and fuels you better than water” strapline and featured sports stars such as Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and England rugby union star Chris Robshaw.
The activity racked up 63 complaints, including one from the Natural Hydration Council (NHC), challenging whether the strapline breached the advertising code.
I chose these two posters because they both had a similar but different poster design, with the Scream poster i liked the shading and highlighting on the mask and image as a whole which gave it a very appealing look and aspect. I also was interested in the angle of the Scream poster and the stance of the masked character. The "Knock knock" poster caught my attention with the positioning of the characters and their facial expressions and first look into the cast.
I chose these too posters because they have a very distinct style and art. The "American Psycho" poster attracted me with its abstract looking style which reminded me of world war propaganda art. The "Doctor Sleep" poster has a strange view that caught my eye with the main character walking towards his younger self which can be seen as him remembering his past which is starting to reel itself back into to the present.
After I researched and found movie I taken interest in I then went into analyzing and labeling key aspects of the film posters like colour, contrast and layout.
MY HORROR MAGAZINE:
Here I have made my first attempt of my own horror poster with images from the internet. I have taken a image of a woman then split the image in half and used light adjustments to darken the image to give it a Erie look then to further impact the picture I used filters to give the girl a more animated feel and style. I then moved onto the other side of the girls face and darkened and lightened various areas to make the photo look more natural. Finally I merged both photos so I could make it seem the darker more sinister side was taking over the girl and for more details I used the brush to create a blood pouring effects on the eye.
Then I went onto gather my own primary photos so here I have taken a picture of my friend and used him as a character for the film poster. I wanted the image to have a disturbing aspect to it so I decided to remove the mouth and eyes by using the eye dropper tool to get different shades of his face so I could patch up any unwanted features and using the eye dropper tool gave me a free range to add more details in blending. I then decided to keep one eye socket and gave the void of the eye a red dot to insinuate he is possessed. Finally I used a dark black background so the image could look darker and more frightening and I used the paint brush the create red eyes in the dark then used another lighter red on top of them to create a glooming glowing effect. For the title "NOCTURNAL" I used a standard blocky type of text which I felt really fit with the character because of the suit and could be linked in with an office and that these character are day to day people civilians like you and me.
For my second design of my poster I went with a similar style by making the eye sockets open and wide with no eye ball but decided to have two instead of one. I also put tape over the characters mouth to show that they are a kind of a puppet role and are being used. I then decided to play around with the colour of the characters face to red for a kind of dark room photography room which then I made the background face with the red devilish eyes with half a human/creatures face and half of a skull. I changed up the Title font with a more distinct font and I put text at the bottom of the poster.
I went for a landscape design with this poster because I created it to be on a bus livery for a promotion/production of the movie. I had taken another primary photo of a friend and cropped and adjusted him into a wedding type of suit then I used a picture of a skull and stretched it to make it look like it was trying to escape out of the character. Finally I applied filters and used the same font as my second poster but when for the same double text idea as my original design.
Here I have taken the poster I had made for the bus livery but I have made it portrait instead of landscape and the text is also now over the image with a new Doom style font. I have used a website called 'placeit.net' for the format and setup of the text and I now have a slogan "silence can be deadly at the top of my poster.
Here I have taken an image of a oil painting of a girl then I have removed the pupil of the eye and then i have made the eyes slightly blood shot with blood tears pouring out, I then got a picture of a skull from google then used skew to get the skull to match the girls face then lowered the opacity to give it a kind of ghost effect.
Here I have taken different peoples faces of Google and then taken specific body features then created a whole new face using multiple peoples faces. I have used a stapled image and merged it with the photo to make it look like the body parts had been stapled together to make it the picture seem similar to Texas chainsaw massacres ' leather face'. I also have put the face on an old tv screen and used filters to give it a static effect which I have used so it looks like a 80s serial killer look/feel. I like the rough and messy aspect of the face because it gives the image a more unsettling visual.
Here I have created a snake using scales from a image of a snake then used skew to make the scales into a certain shape and pattern to create a new snake. I used hue and saturation to change the colour of the scales to blue then used the brush took to create more detail to the scales and add purple underneath the snake. Then I created a snake head by drawing the outline of the head then importing the scales into the outline then using skew to get the curvature of the head. After that I used the burn tool to add shading and depth to the snake. When I was finished with the shading I found a image of inside a snakes mouth then used skew to fit it into the mouth of my drawing. I decided to add teeth and a cigar for the snake to have in its mouth then used the brush tool and a brush effect to create smoke coming off the cigar. Finally I got snake eyes of google and put them onto my image and changed one of the eyes to a plus by cropping the pupil and overlaying it onto the original pupil and added a shirt to the snake and using the burn tool to make it look like its apart of the snake.
Here I have taken a picture of Homer Simpson and I have redesigned him into a devil by changing his skin colour to red using the bucket fill tool then i redefined the edges of Homer to have a stronger dark outline. Then using the brush tool I created a new pupil for homers eyes and added horns and a tongue also using the brush tool.
Here I have just taken a picture of a teddy bear and I have used the lasso tool to duplicate its eyes to make the bear seem like a spider then I used the lasso tool again to copy the arms of the bear and using skew and distort tool I stretched them into spider legs. I then decided to split the whole screen in half so I added the original picture of the bear but then blended the two together and made the original bear darker and have blood stains on. I then changed half of the screen black and the other white to visibly show both sides of the bear clearly.
